JFS Maxine Myers Volunteer Award
Bill Steinhauer
Bill Steinhauer has been volunteering with JFS since June 2022. Throughout his time volunteering, he has served in Cafe Europa, Reading Buddies, Listen to Children, and Meal Delivery. Bill is an asset to JFS because he goes above and beyond in his role as a volunteer, always stepping up where there is a need. He is incredibly dedicated to serving Holocaust survivors, signs up for multiple meal deliveries for isolated older adults, and has faithfully served his student in Listen to Children for two years. When a school district cut back their availability for Reading Buddies, Bill offered to take a step back so that others wouldn’t have to lose their place volunteering. He is a team player and now serves as a substitute reader, ensuring the kids don’t miss out on their reading time when their normal volunteer has to miss a visit.
Bill is beloved at the elementary school where he does Listen to Children. Staff always report how wonderful “Mr. Bill” is, and the guidance counselor shares how much his student has grown over the course of their two years together. Bill’s dedication has helped raise his student’s self-esteem, improve his relationships with peers and teachers, and increase class participation and interest. Bill’s commitment to the program has made a lasting impact on this child’s life.
We are thrilled to recognize Bill Steinhauer with the JFS Maxine Myers Volunteer Award.
