We're Here To Help
Helping You Cope With Life’s Challenges
The goal of the JFS older adult counseling service is to promote the highest level of functioning and to assist individuals in coping with challenges faced during the aging process.
Helping with a Range of Issues
Counseling is provided to assist older adults and their families who are struggling with issues such as caregiving, depression, loss of independence, chronic health issues, loss, and bereavement.
JFS offers individual, couples, and family counseling at any JFS office location or at the client’s home, if indicated. Counseling services are facilitated by licensed clinical social workers skilled in the delivery of geriatric services. Consulting psychiatrists may complement the scope of this service.
All JFS services are offered on a non-discriminatory basis. JFS of MetroWest NJ is licensed by the State of New Jersey as a provider of outpatient mental health counseling services. We have managed care contracts with most insurance companies. Insurance plan benefits vary, and our intake specialist can help you to determine your level of insurance coverage. JFS accepts Medicare and Medicaid plans. Clients can self-pay for services, and we offer a subsidized sliding scale for those requiring financial assistance.
As a complement to congregational rabbis and religious leaders, a Community Chaplain service is available to offer individuals, families and caregivers additional guidance and support during difficult and challenging times. Services include home visits, telephone support and information and referral. For more information, contact Cecille Asekoff at (973)929-3168 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The Community Chaplain is a joint project of JFS, Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest and the Joint Chaplaincy Committee, with the generous support of the Grotta Fund for Senior Care. Healthy IDEAS – Depression and Older Adults
A specialized screening and behavioral intervention called Healthy IDEAS (Identifying Depression Empowering Activities in Seniors) is available for older adults. Healthy IDEAS is a program that was developed in partnership with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) in an effort to help older adults recognize sign of depression and to identify ways to lessen depression. JFS social workers are experts at administering the Healthy IDEAS screening.
