Lore Ross Café Europa

Lore Ross Cafe Europa is an informal relaxed group where survivors can engage in conversation, participate in social and educational activities and develop supportive relationships. It also provides a venue for JFS to identify survivors whose needs might otherwise go unnoticed and who may be eligible for other services. Meetings are held bi-monthly at Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange. There are no fees, but advance registration is required. For the meeting schedule, please see the calendar listing below.

Lore Ross Café Europa is supported by a bequest from the estate of Lore Ross and was established with generous funding from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Lore Ross Café Europa is supported in part with generous funding from the Curt C. and Else Silberman Foundation, the JFS Fred and Ellin Cohen Café Europa Programming Endowment Fund and the Jennie (Blinderman), Morris and Harry Slipock Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest. Lore Ross Café Europa programs for Holocaust survivors have been supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

An article in e Jewish Philanthropy recently reported that as many as 16,000 additional Holocaust survivors may now be eligible for pension benefits through a Claims Conference negotiation with the German government. Click here to read more or contact JFS if you think you may be eligible.

The "Patchwork of Memories" Quilt was created through a special Lore Ross Café Europa art project. Fourteen survivors crafted a "living" quilt depicting their Holocaust memories and experiences. Tribute Cards were created as an outgrowth of this project, and are available in boxes of 15 cards and envelopes or as a single Quilt card only.
